    Smile maruthi 800 DX, 5speed - 55,555.5kms review

    Post  napster 11th May 2009, 12:49 am

hello everyone, first let me introduce my ride, the good old M800
    Maruti 800 DX, 5speed - 55,555.5kms review Dsc01925

we bought this thing few days before my b'day on 2001, march 31st night 8:00pm IST to be precise
it wsas used by my dad for almost 6years and had not even a single problem in his handling, and later i took over it, the car was in very good condition, take a look at this,
    Maruti 800 DX, 5speed - 55,555.5kms review Dsc01210
the car did almost 45,000 kms when it was given to me and the car was still running on the stock tires, i slowly started upgrading it part by part and made it like the one in the intro pic, did a unch of long drives on this machine when bunked college, with family and at times alone, dint face any problem with the engine at all,
all i had to do is a drive shaft change a TI change, all four suspensions changed, all four mirror rolling devices changed, and thats all of it, the k&N replacement is my personal choice so not including in the list, the cabin light is of no use so changed it to a 24led lamp and you feeel like its day time when your in the cabin with the light on
    Maruti 800 DX, 5speed - 55,555.5kms review Dsc01926
    Maruti 800 DX, 5speed - 55,555.5kms review Dsc01927
these pics were clicked at 12:00 midnight just before posting this topic, these led's are too bright
even the head lamp isnt brght enough so upgraded them to hella 130/110 instead of the stock 60/55 lamps
i feel normal while driving because my front glass is tinted, the car is a bit low on height so increased its height by 3"
the stock tires 145/70 r12 doesnt provide much comfort and riding pleasure so upgraded to 165/60 r13 potenza g3's on light weight HR alloys
overall the pros and cons are
    PROS:
    easy to get through traffic
    fuel economy
    maintanence is low
    spares available every where
best car to try your DIY's

    CONS:

very bad braking unless you install brake boosters
    too low on height
bad legroom for the rear seats
    very small boot
    not at all tuner friendly

overall ratings for the stock m800 and my m800(out of 10)
    handling-5,6
    ride quality-5,7
    vfm-9,9
    interiors-6,7
    exteriors-6,8
    engine-6,6.5
    safety-4,4
    built quality-5,5
    FE-9,8
    few more pics coming soon

Oh Ok. My uncle had a similar looking 800, don't know the year. But it didn't have disc brakes. I was unaware of when MS gave front discs to 800 :stupid: .

@napster, which wheels do you have now? Alloy or steel?

I don't think 800 had ever drums in front, May be the first gen. model had.
These are alloys, As it can be clearly seen in pics.

I read this napster's quote in another thread. I didn't read properly and got confused with the underlined words. I thought he replaced 13" with 12" stock wheels and thus the confusion. :stupid:

vibhor complained about lack of boot space in 800, but napster he has filled that little boot space with subs :lol!: .
Different looking subs doesn't look nice.

true, specially the pioneer's blue color doesnt look good, thats why i wanted to upgrade the sub to that of jbl dual sub enclosure, i act got that pioneer sub from a friend so kept it, after iupgrade to jbl enclosure, ill put these aside and in an year ill takeoff the rear seats and build a custom enclosure in that space for audio

800 has disc's on the front but they act s drms only because they are mechanical (hydraulic) whereas alto, new zen and all have vaccume brakes and are very quick, i asked for upgradation to vaccume brakes and it's gonna cost 6k for the conversion

i also feel, since 800's brakes are non-assisted, they are harder & give a spongy feel compared to its brothers.
