    Q7 Review (21000kms) Empty Q7 Review (21000kms)

    Post  abhi_qpotsiavs 13th March 2009, 1:08 pm

Got the delivery of Q7 3.0 V6 TDi on 13th Aug 08. It is Basic 3.0 V6 plus Panaromic Sunroof (Rs.2 lacs), Electrically adjustable steering, Bose Surround System (Rs.75000) and Foldable Tables..
The car has covered 21000 kms till now..
U take this car out on road and u command respect.. Other road users give side on their own seeing this beauty in their rear-view mirrors..
Fuel efficiency we are getting is 6-7 in city and upto 10 on highways which i guess is decent enough considering the size, weight and performance..
Havn't tried max speed of this but I guess it must be app 230kmph..
    Maintainence till date:
    1st service (15000kms) : Rs. 20000
Got 2 free tyres from Audi bcoz front tyres were worn out due to improper alignment. (each tyre costs 23000)
Expected maintainence: Brake pads needs to be replaced at around 25000kms.. Cost is whopping 45000 for a set..!
    Accidental repairs:
    Right Mirror: Rs. 74000
    Front Wind Shield: Rs. 40000
Cons: Although this is a SUV with Hieght adjustable suspension and other fancies, this one is not atall fit for off-roading.. One Tyre got a cut on it right on the first drive of Q7 on Kaccha road (where even sedans go with ease).. This one is a delicate darling and needs to be handled with care.. Another weak point (weakest point) is space saver stepney.. We need a full size stepny in India.. How can Audi give Space Saver to a 65 Lakh ruppee car in India?
Apart from Audi MMI (Multi Media Interface) & Hieght adjustable suspension theres no special feature in Q7.. Passat which costs at less than half the prices comes with features like Heated seats, Memory setting (3) for driver seat and Turning focus headlights..
All these cons apart, this beast is Owner's pride..

Good short review of your Audi Q7 Abhijeet!
Q7 is quite a common sight here nowdays and i like this car's designing very much, Cayenne is also nice and my fav. SUV in this segment, but that M-class is just looks plain to me, its only good for the people who want their car as a "status symbol" because of Merc logo and touareg is also nice but not much popular. :)

EDIT : Btw, Why didn't you preferred any other SUV instead of Q7? Also how about adding few exterior and interior pics of it here?

My uncle just went for a casual visit to Audi showroom.. He liked Q7 and immediately booked it (on the spot).. And later on he asked me, "How is Q7?" My answer was positive.. Coz even I didn't knew abt its weaknesses till we actually experienced.. Other alternatives to Q7 are X5, M-Class, Touareg, Cayenne and Range Rover..
X5's Ride quality is on harder side
M-Class lacks the looks and character (much better off-road though)
Touareg again looks bland and I didn't knew that Touareg is marketed in India then.. (Touareg is much better off-road and comes with a full-size stepney too..)
Cayenne was not available in Diesel engine then, so it was straight drop..
Range Rover is my all time fav.. But its very costly and even more costlier to maintain..
All this apart, Non of the above (except Range Rover) has got the street presence of Q7.. Q7 simply stands out in traffic (especially in white)..

Will post many more pics of Q7 soon..

Ya....you are right, Cayenne was a good option but as you said wasn't available in diesel version, Range Rover is mainly for people who love serious off roading, Its a very good car but persronally i feel that it lacks the styling like in a cayenne or Q7, anyways waiting for more pics of your Q7 beast!:D

Recently checked out Montero and found it very very interesting.. Those macho looks.. And I am 100% sure that It must be great for off-roading too.. Priced at 45 lacs, on road, Mumbai, its still on pricier side.. But much cheaper to maintain compared to Q7.. But rear seats are not as comfortable though.. They lack under-thigh support..
Still I'll go for this one if theres requirement of another SUV in the family.. Till then, I am busy drooling Montero which is set as wallpaper on my Desktop as well as my Cell-Phone..

But Montero doesn't come close in status to a Q7. But yeah like all Mitsubishi SUVs, they are great off-roaders.

Yes Montero is a good offroading SUV, If can't afford the Range Rover then Montero can serve best for off roading purposes but as CC saidits not in the segment of Q7 etc, and how about montero's competitior, The Prado? Its a very nice luxury SUV. :)
Here is the picture of Montero -

I know Montero comes a step below Q7.. And Prado is a very capable machine too.. But again available in Petrol only.. May be it'll be launched with a 3.0 diesel engine in 2nd half of 2009.. Then it can be considered..

Great pics. Don't you find the 3.0 V6 TDi lagging in power for such a big SUV?

Great review and pictures, Q7 is simply amazing car! :D,, BTW do you find some difficulties in servicing etc of it, because Audi still don't have much service stations, showrooms etc in India.

Theres one service centre in Mumbai (Shreyans Auto).. The quality of service is not soo good.. This dealer is just behind pulling maximum money from customers.. And most of the customers being celebrities, they don't think twice before paying.. And 3.0 TDi of Q7 is 233bhp.. But its not lacking in power and performance.. It does 0-100 in 8.5 secs (in sports mode) and its damn refined.. If u want more power, go for 6.0 V12 TDi which will be available in India soon at a price of 1.5 Crore..!

Its not that Q7's rims looks like Captiva.. Its other way round.. Lols.. Infact if u observe Captiva, almost all body lines and profile is similar to Q7.. And BTW, these are standard Rims which are 18 inch ones.. 20 inch ones are beautiful (an optional extra for 2.5 Lakh)..But these rims spoil the ride and arn't soo suitable for our roads..

Apart from Rims, Sunroof costs 2 lakhs, Metallic paint costs 1 lakh, S-line Body package costs 2 lakhs, Bose Surround system costs 75k, theres another sound system which costs 7 lakhs (I forgot name).. and many more optional features.. If u go for all optional extras, the accessories itself will cost 50 lakhs + added burden of registration and insurance..

Everytime, I go for servicing my Q7, I get to see some celebrety's Car.. Sanju Baba infact owns 3 cars of Audi.. Q7 Tsi, A8 W12 and R8.. His Audis themselves cost appx 4 Crores in totality.. Morever, he has also gifted a 7-series to Manyata..
