its not easy to maintain these beauties napster. along with lots of money and resources, you also need lots and lots of passion to do it. most people of younger generation just think of fast cars, mods, engine remapping etc. i guess you get what i am saying.

This Landmaster was a daily use car and was fitted with a
diesel (guess it was a Matador OM616) engine in the 1980's.The new silver
paintwork and the renovated woody dash with new plush interiors all done up in
the 1980's, made it appear dashing and its road presence then, in the company
of Premiers and Ambys was marked and felt.
But as they say all good things must come to an end, this car's owner-driver
passed away about five years back. His children love the car very much and do
not want to sell it at all. They have however not been using it since their
father passed away but have handed over this car to a garage for repairs and
restoration.Lets hope the car gets back on the roads as a Queen Landmaster!

That's great to hear about it. But I guess it'll require some big amount to restore this Landmaster.

Yes CC,i'm hummer freak, abhinav and napster the car will be restored but the job is yet to start. The garage people were saying that as soon as the money flow starts the job will start. Will keep you all posted.
CC I was guessing that only the body restoration will conservatively cost around Rs 50000=00 to which we can add the job to be done to the mechanicals and electricals.

yes napster. this is the reason people avoid restoring old cars. now you can imagine how much money will be required to restore a ferrari.

Working on the entire body will cost much. Once you open every part, you'd find many damaged/rusted parts and you have work on it. You can't say that only these are to be restored.

CC, napster and i'm hummer freak - it is a costly proposition. The entire body including the door panels are decaying and getting rusted, some window glasses are broken, the interiors are nothing to speak of, the tyres and tubes need to be replaced. Manual labour is involved. So a decent restoration of the bodyshell will cost that amount.
If the owner uses parts from junked Ambassadors, may be that works out cheap. Like the four doors of this car can be replaced with junked Ambassador doors that can be cheaply brought from Kolkata. And if retreaded tyres instead of new ones are put he can again save 50% costs. Many such body parts of junked Ambassadors can be planted in this car.
I got my Landmaster retouched in its original black shade, just a few months ago which had cost me some Rs 9000=00. And this silver Landmaster needs a full paint coat, after removing the rust, then welding and putting together panels that are rusted, in case the owner does not swap junked Ambassador body parts.
This is as far as the bodywork is concerned.
The Matador diesel engine, gearbox, suspensions and electrical repairs and restoration may also cost a huge amount apart from the bodywork cost estimated @ Rs 50 K.
