Nagpur Vintage and Classic Car and Bike Rally

The Hitavada-Jaycees Orange City Vintage and Classic car and Bike rally was organised today 1st March 2009 at Nagpur . The route was 37 kms across the city. I did not win any prize.It was
really a pleasure to participate in the rally though the day heat was
quite perceptible. One participant on his Morris 8 of the 1940's
complained about his fuel pump failing due to heat many a time.Nitin
Dossa of the VCCCI, Mumbai judged the Concours'd Elegance. The show
stealer was a regal 1936 Rolls Royce Phantom II. This was the car of
the Governor of Bengal which was with an owner in Mumbai but now here
at Nagpur. The oldest participating vehicle was a 1916 motorbike-

Oh! that's great anjan. Nice pics anjan. Looks like this is a show for cycles and Motorcycles too. I though that more bikes won't be there. So had a great time? i guess :)

Thanks CC had a great time -all through the route crowds cheered the participants. The route traversed through most parts of the city.

Again nice pics anjan. The Rolls Royce is great. The beetle also looks good and is very well maintained.

Also another bit of news. The prizes
were distributed by Mr Vijaybabu Darda, M.P., who expressed his love
for old cars. He specifically referred to the issue about banning
exports of older cars and bikes,provision for supply of imported spares
for old jalopies, tax waive offs and PUC test exemptions.He said that
he has written about it to the PM and Commerce Minister. I shall post
copies of these letters .I had a small talk with him on this issue.

A 1929 Model A Ford-the car is in the family since 1929 and they have preserved the original purchase receipt for Rs 2990=00.Note the ugly Yamaha RX 100 indicators fitted to the car near the headlight. the owner laments that he was forced to fit these for passing the car by the RTO.

The 1967 Lambretta with its original paint- a rarity.The
front part has been retouched but the rear part still retains the
original paint. Lambrettas came in a single colour during a short
period from 1965 till early 1968- a change from the usual two-tone
shades.

Thanks vijay, zinam and CC - I enjoyed a lot with my family but missed out on taking many more pictures, as I was hanging around my car most of the time. Visitors like to interact with car owners asking many questions. Even the judges of the event were on rounds asking owners to be near their cars. But its been a long way now- we could only click some 36 pictures per roll earlier with analogs, but now we do them in tens and hundreds with the digital cameras.

You should have taken someone with for taking pics :drive:
Anyways this itself is a great collection :)
