I'm talking about the 185 section width. I guess the OEM tyre is 145.
Go for Garware only if it is free. Otherwise buy a better one.
185 is too broad for the Alto. Max is 165. The Garware is free and I heard it's quite good.

Just checked the milege today (full tank to full tank method). The car
returned 13.79Kmpl. Driving was 40% City and 60% Highway with the AC
    running 100%.

185 is way too large, alto best suits 165, if you want more then 175 with some minor changes , not more than that, and try upsizing your rim
    http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp
here you can check all kind of variations faced on upsizing , wider tires etc, give it a try, i used this website and chose my tires and it was very useful

Just installed foglamps. Upgradation of the headlamps to Phillips 100/90W is in progress. Currently suspended due to heavy rain.

Took the car for the first service today. See how the dealer was trying
to cheat. First the service advisor tells me; (S.A.=Service advisor,
P.L.: Myself, My thoughts in brackets)
S.A.:For your first service we will be doing a general checking, oil change and engine wax coating."
P.L.:What is this wax coating and why is it required?
S.A.:Sir it will protect the engine and prevent water from going into
the sensors. This is a Euro II engine and it has sensors which cost
more than Rs.2000/-. You will not get warranty.
P.L.:But how will the water go into the sensors.? Why is the car not
designed to prevent entry of water into the sensors and how will a wax
coating prevent this? And in any case this is covered by warranty, so
    why should I spend extra?
S.A.:Sir we just recomend to the customer what is good for the car.
P.L.: O.K. so this is optional. Why did you not clearly state this? BTW how much does it cost.
S.A.: Sir I told you very clearly (God knows when). Anyway it costs
Rs.900/-. Company is not gaining anything by charging Rs.900/-. It is
for the customers benifit. (Oh Maruti has become a NGO and is doing
    social service).
    P.L.: I don't want it.
S.A.: O.K. sir, then the bill will be Rs.1100/- for oil, filter and additive.
P.L.:Additive for what and how much? What use is it?
S.A.:BG additive for the engine oil sir. Costs on Rs.480/- and it will
protect the bearings. Good for engine life sir. Better milege too.
P.L.: No thank you. Just do whatever is mentioned in the book.

    Now the extra bits.
P.L.: The underbody coating was not done properly. There's some sprayed on the bumper too.
S.A.: Contact the sales executive. He can help you out.
P.L.: Thanks. Now for the remote boot release. I've got all the parts, can you fit them?
S.A.: No. But the painting and denting department will do it. I will take you there.

The painting and denting department was full for the day so they said they'll do it on monday.

I don't know why these service centres are too greedy. They get lot of cars everyday with lots of problems, but still they try to charge for something unimportant and unnecessary just for earning extra income.

I think first service will be done by 1000 or 2000km. For Swift, they charged only for engine oil. Filters and other things are free of cost. It was a complete free service, save for engine oil.

these dealers always tries to full customers with those extra expenses which earns them more, till first few services you dont need anything extra to be done either then mentioned in the service manual, optionals are under body coating which could be done else all this is just selling lemons to customers.

i dint face any problems with the service in my 8years old ownership, though my dad use to look after the service for the first 4years, but then last 4years service was under my supervision, i got hold of one particular mechanic who works in maruti, gave him some 100rs once or twice in an year and that does the job, he gives me proper guidance on what to do and when to do, if i have any problem with my car he suggests me to get things done outside if its over charged in the company service center, i suggest every one to try this out, because we cant trust people out there, they might say what actually is wrong or they might even say things just to make money, its just a matter of few hundreds, after all spending few hundreds unofficially is better than loosing thousand officially wink thumbs

The Lamination was done by Salim from Margao, Goa. The seats and all plastic trims were already removed for this job. I just took it to a local mechanic and told him what to do. I could have done it myself but didn't have the tools. It's a very easy job. Remove the driver seat and open the carpet. Remove the rear seat. Remove all the lower plastic trims near both the doors and the dicky. Lay the cable. Then replace the lever with the double one and connect the 2 cables (petrol & boot). Replace the striker with the new one and connect the other end of the cable. Test it and then replace all trims.

Same benifit as laminating your certificates or mobile Very Happy . Protects the carpet from water and muck in the monsoons. Even after the monsoons you can keep it as most people never keep their feet on the carpet. You always have mats. Remember to keep the mats "Ulta" as the small spikes on the underside will pierce the lamination.
