hmm basic seems that tata doesnt care for the feedbacks given by customers not does their dealers, for me tata has the worst dealer networks across nation who are only intrested in selling cars and not service, backups,ASS and believe me after Fiat joining things are worst then what it was before, saying this from personal experience.

me and vijay just visited tata showroom today. checked out the nano.
here are some inputs from me. vijay may add his later.
the car is cute. we are checkin out the top end model with power windows, power steering et al.
we walk closer to the car and the typical tata quality can be seen. feel the body and you know this might be dangerous even if we crash into a bike. doors are somewhat stronger. but the parts like the front bumper looks like it might break if i crash into it while running. very flimsy quality here. get hold of the door handle and you know this is a cheap car. the doors open and you are greeted with plastic interiors that look good. but get inside take a closer look and feel of the plastic used and you know this is definitely the cheapest car on earth. door handles seem too wobly (both inside and outside) feel like they will come out of the door anytime.
the good part is that the seats are comfy and spacious. that is always expected from tata. infact the space is much better than swift and ritz.lots of headroom and legroom. and its only good to seat four people.
now some people might say, quality has been low because the price is low. but if you actually compare the top-end nano and the maruti 800 (which dont have a very large price difference) there's a huge difference of quality in both exteriors as well as interiors. and mind you this was the top-end version of nano. the lower base model has even lesser quality of interiors.

the final verdict: the nano is cute lookin car. tata needs to be commended for good space and design. but when it comes to quality its a bit too low for what i had expected. i wouldnt like to own this vehicle.
this vehicle can be recomended to people who just cant afford anything else and want a four wheeler standing in their parking. or else some others who just want to own nano. not for its price but because its a rare car.
but even to those who cant afford a new maruti800 i would advice a second hand maruti800 which is an actual car and not just a spacios metal box with wheels.

    @bharat, no TD?

One interesting fact. In the OD's test of small cars, they did a calculation and the result is Nano being cheaper by only 23000rs and it is bound to increase in the future. Considering the waiting period, we could get an interest amount(on booking which costs around 1,30,000 and no refund) that will further narrow the gap. I'm for 800 only.

    Nice review Hummer.

Even I checked out the Nano a couple of days back. The car looked good, yet eerily small. I felt that why the hell do we need a license to drive this thing. As I approached the top-of-the-line model and opened its does, I felt like quality just hasn't been taken care off as the door feels light, tinny and feels like it will come off with a sharp yank. I sat on the driver's seat and found it even more spacious than a Santro. You seat high up and have a commanding view. The pedals felt light and easy to operate. Tata has always been known for its poor gearboxes, so I fiddle around with the Nano's box a bit. I found it very usable and a refreshing breath of air after the Indica's box. The dashboard design is nice, simplistic, yet trendy. As I tapped around the plastics, I realised that Tata will have quality issues with even the Nano, though it can be justified to some extent with the low pricing. This definetly felt like the cheapest car on Earth, though a robust one at that.
IMO, one can buy the Nano if he/she cannot afford anything else, if he/she is a novice in driving and wants something easy to practice in or if he/she has sentiments for the car. This car can make a very good driver training vehicle and some more essentials like atleast the left wing mirror would have been welcome.

i checked nano on the 8thday it was launched, my friends ex-driver was working there so managed to listen to the sound of the engine and stuff, the car might not be up to the mark but i should say, the AC was surely up to the mark, the engine doesnt sound good at all, but the legroom and head room was good, better than the m800

Oh ok. Tata should be feared for giving TD, one might be long line of people want to TD and other might be fearing the number of booking coming down.

maybe thats the reason but most of the showrooms wont allow sales men to handle cars in any ways, even thats a reason, what you said might also be right,

A week before Dzire's launch, i went to a MS dealers' stockyard in Coimbatore to see the car. I asked the person, who accompanied me, he said he drove the car.
For Logan, i TD a car in stockyard. We get loan from ICICI and from the same person everytime, so he took us there. They said we aren't permitted to allow you to drive, so drive carefully.

So in stock yard, if you know them you can drive.

A lot of connections are necessary to get such a chance to drive in a stock yard.

Tata Motors hopes to sell Nano in United States[/size]
Tata Motors hopes to offer the Nano, dubbed the world's cheapest car, in the United States within two years, its chairman said.

"It will need to meet all emission and crash standards and so we hope in the next two years we will be offering such a vehicle in the U.S," Ratan Tata told a panel at the Cornell Global Forum on Sustainable Global Enterprise late Wednesday.

The company plans to offer a European version of the car, which costs about $2,300, in 2011.

Tata got the idea to make a car that poor people could afford while thinking about the motorbike and scooter riders who maneuver through the streets of Indian cities with their children on board.

The four-seater car gets up to 65 miles per gallon (28 km per liter). Cheap labor helps to keep the price down.

So we could soon expect Tata to launch Nano Merica. They use cheap labor and capital from here(India) but they launch good models abroad.

Exactly. The Indian Nano is barren in comparison to the European Nano and might even lack the overall build quality of the European version. It is tough to imagine what will happen when American freeways will be filled up with Nanos. :drive:

well adding to what the most things hummer said, top end lx nano comes with front power windows, switches are before gear knob, not easy to operate, were expecting atleast better quality on its top end model which gets to around 2.15 on road price, cheap quality is what u feel touching all plastics and as hummer said, door handles, knobs, bumpers all are very filmsy which u feel might just come out.Close the door and u hear the noise ding, which reminds you of the metal body bumping each other.Good thing is its space which tata is known for, we checked rear seat after adjusting drivers seat, me was seating on driver's seat(6'1") and hummer checked rear seat which was shockingly much better and comfortable which we lacked on ritz to see, believe us its better then ritz :affraid: .
I too would prefer maruti 800 over nano, cause built, quality, safety wise 800 is league ahead then this.Thanks.

OTR price 2.15lacs? Then it is very close to 800, the only feature 800 doesn't possess is front power windows. I'll go for 800 instead.

That sound while closing the door, some Mag was bragging about it. Like the thud ensured solid feel,etc..

Again PW switches near gear lever, like Indica, the most stupid thought. One has to bend and operate(take eyes off the road).
