Toyota today unveiled its flagship SUV internationally, the legendary Land Cruiser in a glittering function at the Hotel Grand Hyatt, here in Mumbai.

Presided over by Mr Hiroshi Nakagawa MD TKM , Mr. Vikram Kirloskar Vice Chairman of TKM and his team Mr Sundeep Singh DMD TKM and Chief Engineer TKM, Mr.Sadayoshi Koyari, the event kicked off with a audio-visual on the history of the Land Cruiser. The presentation depicted every generation of the Land Cruiser and the how the vehicle evolved to reach this stage.

Next, Mr. Hiroshi Nakagawa introduced the members in the dais followed by another presentation by the company’s chief engineer who brought out the features and technical details of the vehicle. Once that was over, the car was driven on to the stage followed by the photo session and question and answer session.

This monster of a SUV is priced at Rs.83.1 lakhs (ex-showroom Thane) for the higher variant and Rs. 81.64 lakhs for the lower variant. The upper is distinguished by merely the JBL DVD/Audio system, EMV screen and a moon roof.

The Land Cruiser is powered by a 4500cc V8 engine that is good for 285bhp and 650Nm of torque. The engine shares a relationship with a 6-speed Auto transmission. The Land Cruiser will be available in 10 colors and the company expects to sell the same number of vehicles this year.

I guess most people now are awaiting the launch of the Fortuner, post september '09 as confirmed by the compnay officials, since the 'Monster' LandCruiser is out of reach of the majority. With all respect to the LandCruiser which i really loved few years back, even if i had 83 odd lacs to spend on a car, i would surely buy something else. With this price, surely the grey market will still be more active than before.

    Moon Roof is nothing new.
It has been offered in many cars from quite long time, For Eg. Chevy Optra Royale.

you can understand more about sunroofs and moonroofs through this.

"Sunroof" is the generic term used to describe an operable panel in a vehicle roof which can let in light and/or air. "Moonroof" is a term created by Ford in the 70s, yet is now used generically to describe glass panel inbuilt electric sunroofs.

Hmmm, so all moonroofs are sunroofs, yet not all sunroofs are moonroofs? We found further clarification -- "sunroof" is the term originally used to describe a metal panel that would only allow light or air in when opened. A "moonroof," on the other hand, is a glass panel that can allow light in even when it is closed (provided, of course, you slide back that nifty fabric-covered panel to expose the glass).
True sunroofs, those made just of metal, appear to have gone the way of 8-tracks in automobiles, and these days, most "sunroofs" are really "moonroofs" -- panels of tempered glass, usually tinted, that tilt up to allow a flow of air, or slide back into the roof entirely, giving the car occupants a brief but tantalizing glimpse of life in a convertible.

According to ACI, the LC engine is very responsive and that this car was born to cruise at any speed. Its an awesome off-roader too, making it a very pushable car off the road. This car also has acres of space inside and the gap between a driver and the co-passenger is literally an arm's length.
