Maruti Kizashi coming by next year!

Following establishment of its leadership in the A, B and C-segment cars in India, Maruti Suzuki is now looking aggressively at the D-segment by planning to launch the Kizashi by 2010-end. The Kizashi will be the first all-wheel drive sedan in the luxury D-segment. However, there is a slight change in plans since parent Suzuki Motor Co is now preferring smaller vehicles for global auto markets and is therefore doing away with the monstrous 3.5 litre engine. Instead, Maruti is likely to go in for a 2-litre petrol engine, though nothing seems finalized yet.

“The market has changed and Suzuki has now stopped developing such big engines. Now they are developing a 2 litre engine,” Maruti Suzuki India Managing Director Shinzo Nakanishi said. “If SMC launches Kizashi this year in Japan we will think of bringing it in India. Otherwise, SX4 will be our biggest car here,” he added.

Pricing and other details are still not available, but it is widely believed the car would be priced at around Rs. 10 lakh price bracket and would be rolled out from MSIL’s state-of-the-art-facility in Manesar. It would be pitted against Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla Altis, Chevrolet Optra, Skoda Octavia and Volkswagen Jetta. Industry sources have revealed that Maruti engineers have already began working on Kizashi to take it from the concept stage to the production platform.The 2-litre engined Kizashi would be the biggest car in Suzuki’s passenger car portfolio and the company would not go beyond that engine capacity. :)

Got to watchout for Build Quality of this one. If thats sorted then I guess, car will hit and will be an ideal upgrade for Maruti users.

Yeah Build quality should be taken care of, especially the rattles. Quality of switches and overall interior quality should be taken care. Also the rear seat comfort, which is a negative point in all MS cars. needs to be sorted out.

Vibhor, sorry to point out, but you have a little bit on wrong info.
The Kizashi is an Accord Challenger, as said by the ACI and it is likely to be around 18-20 Lakhs.
I expect it to be a total flop like Vitara if they carry on small parts of lower end cars like Swift Steering wheel, switchgear etc.
The build quality should be good and the cabin should not be claustrophobic.

No problems in pointing out sparsh, but i still doubt that it would be pitted against accord, I've heard before also that its going to compete the Chevy optra, Civic etc.

10lakhs for a 2.0ltr engine is ok,sounds like its worth but only if the built quality is taken care of

quality would be taken care if they are launching a 10 L bracket car in our market with good competetion along with quality products available, surely this would be taken care of.

Kizashi will be competing with Luxury Sedans like Accord, Embera & Jetta. It's expected price is around 16Lakhs.

Why is Suzuki jumping to D segment directly. I don't think Suzuki's brand is worth enough to attract D segment buyers. They should aim at fighting with Altis and Civic first in the C+ segment.

The Kizashi production prototype is very similar to the Kizashi 3 Concept. It looks excellent from the front, it has an extra fat arse which may not go well with the design.

Well there are quite few modifications done on concept designs while getting it on road, as concepts are to let know the world industry what you are creating with your designs and future plannings but in real quite things are changed to make it practical to run.

taking the look factor, a-star concept looks soo awesome and the actual production car looks stupid then why dont those people get the concepts on the road? most of the people will grab the concepts for sure

In most of the cases concepts doesn't comes on the roads because they are not practical, Also, Concepts are made by companies to show there capabilities.

Let me give you an example, Why I said that concepts aren't practical ;

Now look at this car and tell me whether this car is practical for the roads or not?
Isn't it a way too futuristic?

I completely agree with this point. A-star concept was really great. I even thought MS did a great job, but the production version is very bad. Hope the same doesn't happen to Kizashi concept in Indian version.

Suzuki has unveiled the Kizashi, a new sports saloon that will be available as a hybrid.The car is based on the Concept Kizashi of 2007 and initially will feature a 2.4-litre DOHC inline four-cylinder engine.The unit is linked to a six-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with paddle shift.Suzuki has confirmed that a hybrid will join the line-up at some point. Both two and four-wheel drive will be available.The Kizashi has been tested both at Germany’s Nurburgring and rural roads of England, says Suzuki, ensuring it is both sporty and comfortable.The suspension is multi-link at the rear, constructed of aluminium, and the car has 18in alloys at each corner.

Visually the Kizashi is far less radical than the concept. The front end is reminiscent of a Volkswagen Jetta and the rear is curved but unadventurous. Overall length is 4650mm and width is 1820mm.
Inside there are standard sports seats and a smart swooping dashboard. Safety equipment includes eight standard airbags, ESP, anti-lock brakes, projector beam headlamps and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
The Kizashi saloon goes on sale later this year and will be joined by a crossover and estate.
