All new Maruti Omni O2 coming!

Hi Guys! :)
India's biggest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki is planning to give its omni, which is now getting dated, An all new looks and is likely to be renamed as Omni O2. The Omni is very popular van from Maruti Suzuki in Indian market.

The all new Omni O2 will be built on the Versa platform as opposed to the current M800 platform, and is expected to be priced premium over current Omni.

Maruti suzuki Omni O2 is expected to hit showrooms by Endf09 or Start of 2010.It would be replacing the old Versa which is getting long in the tooth and also it has not been successful to grab much sales, MSIL was able to sell just its 28 units in the month of December 2008.

any pics of the new one??

Great news vibhor. But I feel that it should be given a new name. As Omni is too old and adding O2 doesn't make sense for this new car.

What 28 units in December? :shock: . I'm really shocked that still people buy Versa. It is a dangerous vehicle and gets unsettled with winds and when more persons on board. Drivers say that Omni is more comfortable to drive than Versa.

Is that so CC i mean have never heard of that omni is better inhandling then versa, though what matters to see is how is new omni offers.
good to see MS launching with new models around even through this phase of fiancial crisis around.

Thank God that Versa is getting replaced!

I really hate the looks of the car. Maruti Omni is anyday prefereable than versa.

And its really good even after we have done more than 80,000Kms :)

I've never driven Versa. My driver's previous employer had both Versa and Omni. He said that Versa though more powerful was too bad to handle in highways. he said that it feels like floating in the air.

Well I think may be due to its narrow body and height.

yeah for sure Omni is better than versa

well may be or also its small wheelbase and small wheels which may make this vehicle feel like floating,, hmm think what the passengers might be feeling being on this vehicle then. :bounce:

Can't say anything about safety but Maruti should offer Airbags as an option in such a van.

How airbag is going to improve safety, when the body doesn't have crash worthiness?

Even if the body is not as tough as it should be but still airbags can definately help incase of collisions at low speed(i.e. about 60-80kph).

For airbags to deploy properly, the steering needs to be in a suitable angle. If it is the same truck-like posture, then the airbag for the driver will deploy in the air.

Hit a tree at 40kph, then Omni will be totally crushed, so is the build strength of it.

We have an Omni E
now the only problem with the current one is that it has a very good pickup til 40kmph but after that all the acceleration just disappears. I mean i can take the car upto 40kmph on the 2nd gear alone, after which the sound from the engine block becomes a little too annoying. After reaching 40-50kmph the rear acceleration isn't at all good, its ludicrous to be precise. Now the lads at maruti design team needs to improve this cause a MPV that cant even clock a 100 on the highway isnt any good,
also in the case of the 8 seater the bumps can be felt by the people sitting on the rear most seat and that is a bit unsettling for people who might suffer from bodily pains, especially at the back. Also the break needs to be improved, I really could use the ABS system considering the fact that am driving in Kolkata, where auto rickshaw drivers think they are driving an ambulance, where bus drivers have only a 3 inch rear view mirror and bicycles occupy the right hand side of the road, and it gets further annoying if a god damn cabbie drives infront of you cause they dont have any rear light...you never know when he's gonna stop. Now if all these are corrected it would be good, cause the car is after all versatile, and it has a good fuel and maintenance economy. Also the 8 seater is a cheap family car.

Very true car-o-static. plus the body structure needs to be stiffened because it is just like a sheet of paper which is very easy to crumble. In occasion of a crash, there is just NO protection for the passengers.

I have to pretty much wrestle with the Gear shaft while putting it on 2nd gear.
I would really like to meet the fool who designed it, my grandma probably drove a better car than this.

If its body structure is stiffened, then it'll need a bigger engine to pull it. But can i bigger engine be fitted in Omni? I don't think they can do that, because of shortage of space in engine compartment and also it will break the cost factor. No one will buy an Omni for 4 lakhs with strong body and big engine, remember the fate of Versa. Let us wait for the Omni O2, Maruti could have solved many solved many problems like Disc brakes, better suspension set up, etc..

No napster, The pic posted is of current model only, Newer one will be much different than this. :)
