Re: Mahindra Xylo tested!
oh which colour is that buddy, do post some pics of that one standing next to your house, as i heard in real xylo is looking very different and not that appealing as what we saw on net and brochure.

@vibhor, I've posted one before. :)Vibhor wrote:EDIT : If anyone has test driven it then please share a short review of it here. Thanks!
And a continuation of it.Crazy cat wrote:Today I took TD of the Mahindra Xylo. It is a surprise product from Mahindra. its front looks are spoiled by the Headlamps, which raise above on the sides. Other than that, it has decent looks. The USP of this vehicle is its Space and Comfort. It has more than enough legroom for 6 footers in all 3 rows(Even if they sit on the same sides). The seats are comfortable too. Quality sees a big improvement. But the engine lacks refinement. When revved hard, it groans a lot. Its turning radius is short and the steering wheel is compact to hold. Its ride is good too. It comes with a 2DIN Mp3 player with USB, Aux-in and delivers decent sound quality for an OEM Music system. DDAS provides you the direction you travel, Full to Empty, Instant Fuel consumption, outside and inside temp., humidity, average speed, gear shift indicatore, etc..
All models come with AC, PS, PW and Central locking. its price starts from 7lac OTR, Coimbatore for the E2 and goes upto 8.6lacs for the E8. It is a VFM product.
According to me, the main sufferers of this product are Bolero and Scorpio. For its price, it can easily make a dent in Innova's sales.
Crazy cat wrote:Yeah its quality is better than Scorpio, Grande, Safari. The doors were light and can easily closed, unlike others(Not Innova) which you need to apply some force. Entry to the rear is easy. But the car is a bit high and needs some effort(One need to use foot step for sure). It handled well in the city and it was nimble too. No bouncing actions while revving hard or braking hard. Its overall quality is close to Innova.

Re: Mahindra Xylo tested!
had a TD of the xylo today. here is my version of the review.
First & foremost, the vehicle is NOT ugly. its looks huge and quite robust. yes, it does not have the street presence of the scorpio but there are uglier cars around.
EXTERIOR PICS:
The front is quite quirky and styling is a bit odd but i liked the side & rear profile. but it does not have that that typical boxiness present in every mahindras.
INTERIOR PICS:
# captain seats in the middle row: E6 is only available with captain seats whereas E8 is available in both captain as well as bench seats. i found both the seats very comfortable and spacious. access to seats are good but the vehicle is tall, so you climb onto the seats, not slide into them as in the innova.
# front seats are great, very supportive and good all round visibilty.
# instrument cluster is average in design though clarity is good. it makes a sound every time you switch on the turn indicators, which is unnecessary.
# the central console quality is average. though the AC & stereo knobs had a very good feel to it. the AC slider felt very plasticky. the DDAS displays a lot of info, more on that later.
# excellent thought: the vanity mirror behind the sun visor has two lights, excellent for the ladies for last minute touch ups in dark!
# the lights are lifted off from the scorpio itself. the spectacle holder has a very quality feel, the damped release feels good.
# two cup holders & recesses besides the handbrake lever. there is a small storage box too behind this. the lid of the box doubles up as another cup holder. actually, the cabin is full of armrests, cup holders & lights!
# middle row legroom with front seat fully pulled back.
# last/third row legroom.
# every individual has his own AC & reading light.
# the XXXXL grab handle in the second row.
# switches for fuel lid, headlight beam adjust & power mirrors besides the steering.
# the lockable tray under the front driver seat.
# front driver legroom.
# the water for rear wash/wipe is to be filled through this filler in the boot door.
# third row legroom.
# negligible boot space with all three rows in place.
# access to third row is fairly easy even for a tall guy like me because of the tall body. its easier than in the innova.
# tweeters & speakers provided in E6 & E8, quality of music is just decent.
# front legroom:
# green glovebox... EEKS!
# rear legroom with front seat fuly forward.
# bench seat in the second row, not available in E6.
THE ENGINE:
# The engine is not the most refined unit around. engine noise inside the cabin is similar to tavera. the mHawk & innova is much quiter. the performance is not as much as the scorpio CRDe or scorpio mHawk but better than the innova. outright acceleration is just decent but driveability is great. the vehicle easily pulls from 25 kmph in 3rd gear with 4 passengers.

Re: Mahindra Xylo tested!
# no roof mounted AC & minimal cabin lights in base verion- E2.
# dead pedal enhances drive comfort.
# armrest provided even for third row passengers. the round void is for speakers, as told to me.
# DDAS during test drive, its in 4th gear & 46 kph.
# refuelling & destination arrived!
lastly, a few info i collected:
* a newer version, probably E10, will be out in 6-8 months. it will have ABS & airbags.
* a new engine, code named mustang, will be out in the same time, claimed to give 16 kmpl.
* mahindra is NOT selling this car to the taxi market meanwhile, atleast until the newer version is launched.
overall, i am very impressed with the interiors of the vehicle. the engine could have been more refined.
i found the suspension a bit soft. though this gives a good ride quality, the vehicle's front dips quite a bit under hard braking. however, i noticed no swaying or bobbing. braking is good but ABS is needed. the vehicle rolls more than the innova but not as much as scorpio, safari & sumo grande & tavera.

Re: Mahindra Xylo tested!
Wow!! wat a great pics & detailed TD report RAJ, great !! clap
Xylo is really a master piece in comfort. I got that from your pics & look at the third row, its really amazing.
But Mahindra could have concentrated on design too!

Re: Mahindra Xylo tested!
clap raj, superb detialed test drive report from you buddy, need to learn this. Infact the way u detailed along with pics makes one get your point and is easy to understand the car in a better way. The only thing by this is what i felt was the engine refinement, where MHawk should be given in its topend model, which will make this a perfect affordable big city car.CHEERS!!!

Raj, Awesome report!Excellent work! Thanks for sharing here.
On the xylo's launch I sat in it but couldn't test drive.
The car has acres of space and its down to earth price with loaded features has just impressed me. :D

Re: Mahindra Xylo tested!
Here are some more Xylo pictures clicked by me. had been to a Mahindra showroom today. Was impressed with the VFM factor of the Xylo. Outer fit and finish are excellent for its class. But for the cheap looking door handles and the quite crude chrome like rings that encircle these, the plastics quality need a bit of improvement. Space abounds within the MPV. The fit and finish don't match up to the Innova but is a class apart for the lower amount we are paying. The seating is for either 7 or 8 passengers. If we opt for bucket seats in the second row,it becomes a seven seater or else if it is a bench, it will seat 8.The MPV offers a solid ride typical of any Mahindra. The engine noise is very less and cabin intrusion is minimum. The steering and controls are well placed and one doesnt feel like he is driving a 1800 Kg plus MPV. It feels very light. The suspensions are on the softer side for a Mahindra. Though the drive is not as responsive as a Scorpio 2.6 CRDe (the m Hawk is a class above) or as smooth and refined as the Innova, the Xylo with its 2.5 L CRde engine is fun to drive and handle in the city traffic. I could not exceed speeds of above 60 kmph while on the city roads, but have read that its a bit unstable at higher speeds of above 120 kmph. The Xylo does a maximum 161 kmph according to M &M.The seats fold up beautifully for ingress and egress of passengers especially in the third bench.
My friend Raj has also described this MPV very well above.
This is an E6 variant. The higher variants E 6 and E 8 have different colours available that are not found in the E 2 and E 4 versions. The music system an integrated "made for Mahindra" MP3/CD player is of Nippon make and is fitted to the E 6 and E 8 versions. This is very similar to the one fitted on to the Swift DZire ZDi but the ZDi has steering controls for the music system.

Re: Mahindra Xylo tested!
They always bring the top end model as DEMO CAR for test drives. While
driving around with the MPV, I was asking the dealership man as to what
features do not come with the E 4 and the E 6 models? I had driven the
E 8.The engine feels extra refined and though the diesel clatter exists
its not as pronounced as the Mahindras made even five years back. The
fifth gear engaged at speeds of 50kmph plus is cool to drive.Taking the
Fiat MJD 1.3 doing its duty in the Swift/DZire as the benchmark in
common rail diesels for this class, the 2.5 CRDe of the Xylo is nowhere
as refined but not at all crude either. The Innova engine is also much
more refined.
But the Xylo for its price is a class apart. The solid bodyshell
cocoons occupants and the potholes and minor road angularities are not
felt within the cabin.Using a Bolero for some 7-8 years now, I must say
that the Xylo feels much more secure and is two generations ahead.
