So this is the engine that is going to find its place under Swift's hood by 2010 and also in Ritz. Lets see how it performs against 1.2l kappa.

I think the performance of the Ritz and the Kappa will be similar because of Kappa's less weight and Ritz's more power.

What I am thinking is that will the Swift lose its charm if the 1.3l petrol engine is gone?? I mean, its ok for the Ritz to have that engine as it is basically a family vehicle, but the Swift should have more xing to keep that sporty charm intact.

    MARUTI ENGINE UPGRADE PLANS

Maruti Suzuki Limited is investing Rs. 1200 crore
to upgrade its existing engine to new fuel efficient light weight engines. These
new engines will not only be more fuel efficient but also comply with the new BS
–IV emission norms. “While all our new launches will be on the new engines, in
the long term we plan to gradually replace our existing series of engines with
the fuel efficient KB series engines,” said Maruti Suzuki India MD & CEO
    Shinzo Nakanishi.
“We are working on different combinations. We
will continue to have both F and KB series engines on different vehicles meeting
the emission regulatory requirements. The KB series engines are highly fuel
efficient and carry a higher cost then the current series of engines ,” MSI
executive officer (R&D ) IV Rao said.

Maruti is also set to make new records by
investing Rs. 6000 crores in the country that will contribute nearly Rs. 20,000
crores to country’s GDP. These 20000 crore estimated excludes the impact of
upcoming diesel engine plant and likely investment in Maruti’s existing Gurgaon
    plant.
It also plans to introduce new models in the
country and its latest model with KB series engine – Maruti Ritz is ready to be
launched in May 2009. The company also intends to phase out its most popular
model M800 in next two years as they will not be compliant with the new emission
    norms.http://www.cartradeindia.com/car-bike-news/maruti-engine-upgrade-plans-110997.html

Thats a good news. Suzuki's new KB-series of engines are really impressive.
Automobile manufacturers come with new technology to meet emmision norms and in the process we get better performance and fuel efficiency too. Same with Hyundai's Kappa.

with newer norms coming soon in our country, every manufacturer is working on new technology. Hyundai came up with its kappa engine and now its time for maruti with its kb series which the company was working on since few yrs, good to see this but also confused how will swift perform with small 1.2 L engine compared to its 1.3 now. Also maruti is working on its new diesel engines, this would be testing time for Ms as its older diesel engines failed badly in our market and now doing wonders with fiat's multijet engine, its bound to give superior technology in new diesel engine plants they are working on.
