Nissan New Small Car Project on Track!

The Japanese car maker Nissan stated that its project to launch small car in India is on track and it will be ready to bring its new car in India by early 2010. Nissan Motor India’s Managing Director and CEO Kiminobu Tokuyama said: “There is no delay, our plans are on track and Nissan India will come out with its next-generation A-segment car- Micra, on schedule before summer 2010.”

Both the companies intend to make India as their next favorite car manufacturing destination and also intend to increase their market presence in this region. The company is currently working with the French car maker Renault and has a manufacturing unit in Chennai. The plant is being set up to manufacture four lakh cars annually but Nissan said that it shall initially manufacture only 200,000 units annually. Nissan is ready to bring the new small car model – Nissan Micra or Nissan March. The Micra hatchback car is named March in Japan and the Indian version would be christened either Micra or March, said Tokuyama. Nissan also intends to add nearly 4 to 5 models in its product portfolio in India in next 5 years. :)

If priced well, this cute looker will do extremely well.. What engines will it be getting?

Considering the size, a 1.2-1.3ltr or a 1.4ltr(Diesel) would suffice, also a standard 15ks/ltr on the fuel efficiency is required, further more it needs to be priced at 4-6 lacks to give the Tata family cars, Maruti's fuel efficient cars and the sizzling hondas some competition, and also Nissan needs to improve their dealership network also these cars should be cheap to maintain. As for comfort, i would choose Nissan over the tatas and marutis any day.

Nissan is a good brand. But their operation in India are not satisfactory. Very few dealers, high cost of ownership, is the fate of them. If they change it and price Micra/March competitively with diesel, then they can find good sales.

Ya, Thats the main problem with Nissan India that they have very few dealer in some selected cities, Nissan firstly need to improve their dealer network, Also, Nissan is not a very well known name in India, its mainly in luxury cars so nissan needs to price it very competitively, not like skoda has done with Fabia!
Talking about the looks of this cars,They are not much appealing to me, March looks more like a FIAT 500 and has some vintage looks, i expect its price not more than 4-5.5 lacs. :)

Nissan has ambitious plans for the Indian market and targets to launch 4-5 models over the next four years with its first model the Nissan Micra slated to hit the market before summer 2010. The Micra would be available in both the petrol and diesel versions. After the Micra, Nissan plans to roll-out a derivative of Micra, a sedan, in 2011.

“We propose to launch four to five models over the next four-five years in the Indian market. Our first car is scheduled for launch by summer 2010,” Nissan Motor India’s Managing Director and CEO, Kiminobu Tokuyama, said.

but micra doesnt impress me in looks!

Good move by nissan, and as mentioned in previous posts that nissan need to improve its dealership network, and i think in these 5models, facelifted X-Trail is also included!

Nissan Pixo is a small car from Nissan, it is specifically designed to have low emission(Euro-V) and it can really stretch to the litre. under the hood it is going to have a 1 ltr K-series engine capable of 66Bhp of power. In India it is slated to have a price range of 3-5 lakhs.
However no news on when it will be launched, however this car cant be expected to be a hit cause of Nissan's poor dealer's network and high maintainance, also for the car to carry such a low price tag it needs to be produced in India so as to avoid government's high priced Import taxes

What i doubted is true. It is the car developed by Suzuki, then restyled and re-badged by Nissan. Even the interiors are the same. Refer this link for more.
