Yeah Peugeot 309 was a great car. Despite those skinny tyres, its handling and braking was good. Its engines has a long life too. They'll be sure hit, if they have their own network and provide top notch service.

Way back in 1997, even we were planning to buy Peugeot 309 GLD. But got ourselves a Ford Escort 1.8 LX. Peugeot had good ride quality, excellent Ground Clearence and the engine was peppy and fuel efficient compared to Escort. But still Escort made better sense thanks to relatively modern looks, nice interiors, features, Ride quality and Build Quality.
I still have Nov 1997 issue of Auto India which featured comparison test of Ford Escort 1.8 and 309 GLD which i read sometimes.
Peugeot cars are no longer ugly and its a good news that Peugeot is planning to re-enter India.

I'd love to read that comparison. Can you send it here?
