Re: Chevy testing Cruze on Indian roads
General Motors India will roll out the Chevrolet Cruze next month. The Cruze will be positioned between the upper end of the executive segment and the entry level of the premium segment. The range (petrol or diesel, automatic or manual transmission) will be priced between Rs 13.50 lakh and Rs 18.50 lakh. It will be manufactured at GM’s Halol facility.
“The Cruze will create an intermediate segment that involves luxury features found in premium car models at a lower price. The Cruze represents a brand new architecture of the Chevrolet brand,” says General Motors India Vice-president (sales and marketing) Ankush Arora. “The Cruze was introduced in China about two months ago and we have sold over 20,000 in this time. During the same period, we sold over 2,000 in Australia. We are seeing similar response in the West Asian and Latin American markets,” he added.
General Motors India has a car in the executive segment, the Chevrolet Optra, but does not have any presence in the premium segment. Is GM making the same mistake again? The Cruze is a replacement for the Optra and by not discontinuing the Optra and charging a premium for the Cruze, GM is only following footsteps of Maruti and Hyundai which will not work anymore. The Cruze will not be made available in the US markets until 2010.

The price is on the higher side IMO. With this price, there is no need to reduce price of Optra.

Re: Chevy testing Cruze on Indian roads
It is great to know that Cruze will be available in Petrol as well as Diesel plus a choice of Auto and Manual Transmission(As stated in Article).
The fully loaded top end Automatic etc version would be priced at around18.5lacs which is definitely quite high than our expectations.
Seems like chevy is going to target the Accord but let's see how it performs at this price point and what all features, engine specs GM offers. Can't wait for the Cruze's launch any more now.
Above : Chevy Cruze and Honda Accord, Both looks similar from front because of sharp lines, edges and headlamps!

Re: Chevy testing Cruze on Indian roads
still if you just compare front looks, surely GM is more aggressive on this part, else depends on the whole package GM offers on cruze.
Wont be easy for sure for them.

I don't think Chevy can take Honda straight away. Price should be down by 3 lacs.

Re: Chevy testing Cruze on Indian roads
I think the Cruze will serve as a good alternative to the Accord. Plus, Chevy's three years maintenance package will give owners a degree of comfort, which is very much needed now. Plus Cruze spare parts will also be way cheaper than the Accord's.

Re: Chevy testing Cruze on Indian roads
The 3 year maintenance package is now available only in Spark(or U-Va, not sure), i guess. For other cars, you need to buy the pack separately.

Re: Chevy testing Cruze on Indian roads
every car needed to buy package from GM, dont know when did they started offering even on spark CC, my friend brought spark a year back and he gave 15K extra for this offer, so i guess you have to buy that extra with GM.

Re: Chevy testing Cruze on Indian roads
I remember reading in newspaper a couple of days back that Spark(or U-VA) comes with the package for free. But yeah 15k is not a big amount for that package. But chevy should come up with various options, like ford offers. 45k kms is quite less.

True ! Those 'conditions apply' are always printed very small !! We will require a microscope to read it

Re: Chevy testing Cruze on Indian roads
I'm 100% sure about the news. It actually had three cars(Spark, U-VA and Tavera) and the word free was mentioned only for Spark and the conditions included what all covered during the period and nothing else.thackervijay wrote:Crazy cat wrote:I remember reading in newspaper a couple of days back that Spark(or U-VA) comes with the package for free. Re: Chevy testing Cruze on Indian roads

Re: Chevy testing Cruze on Indian roads
Lets consider that the maintenance scheme costs an extra 20k. I would still say its a very nice deal, because 20k from a person buying a car of that stature is like loose money out of the pocket. It'll still be great value for money and 45k kms is not that less. There are many cars which don't clock that mileage in their lifetimes.

Re: Chevy testing Cruze on Indian roads
but DC this scheme comes as 3years or 45000kms, whichever is earlier. So its not like buy this package for 15-20K and have patience and enjoy till you complete 45K's.So its like 3yearsor 45000kms which ever is earlier.dcargod wrote:Lets consider that the maintenance scheme costs an extra 20k. Re: Chevy testing Cruze on Indian roads
In most cases, the 3 years will come first. Not many clock high milages in such a short span, especially within 3 years. So I think it is good for Chevrolet that they have this scheme, especially in times of recession.
