The Cruze is going to compete with the Skoda Laura, VW Jetta, Hyundai Sonata Transform, etc. As I've already mentioned, the price will start from 12 lakh, where the Optra LT model ends. Pricing will be very aggressive.

If it is 12 lacs, then ain't it in Civic, Altis, Octy territory?

Vibhor, it had a huge double decker grille and had stickers all around it.
    All labels were covered.
I could notice the central console, it had a screen in between and it was very similar to the pics of interiors shown in ACI magazines.
I am sure it was a white Chevy Cruze.
It was quite smaller than the Accord.

Hmm.....Maybe, But I'm still surprised why is GM testing it here anyways.

@Hummer, Its expected before Diwali, I guess between July - September.

I think price will be its biggest USP and this is exactly what GM is banking upon to make money. It may also be a future generation to the Optra, so they can price the car well and run it along the current Optra, a common practice in India. This is why it is priced so well. I even heard about Cruze's prices from the salesperson I met when I TDd the Optra Magnum.

With 2.0 and 150 bhp on board, it sounds quite interesting and will give a tough competition to Laura, Jetta and Civic especially if Gm tags the car between 12-14 lacs.

yeah. pricing would be a very important aspect here. with right pricing this product has potential for selling in high numbers.

I've also confirmed this news that the Cruze will get a 2.0lt diesel producing 150bhp and most probably, a 1.8lt petrol, though not sure of its output.

2.0l litre diesel will be the seller for sure. After all it is the engine that made us to see good numbers of Magnum on road and Captiva too. But Chevy should ensure linear power delivery, as both Magnum and Captiva had narrow power band.

Yes CC, I think taller gearing might help to this effect.

    More news on Chevy Cruze:

Another offering from the Chevrolet stable, Chevrolet Cruze is projected to be launched globally and in India by the end of 2009.

The Chevrolet Cruze is a mid-size sedan that comes in both the petrol and diesel variants. The diesel variant will be powered by 2.0 litre engine that delivers 147 bhp and the petrol variant by a 1.8 litre engines that churns out 138 bhp. The company also plans to launch a 1.6 litre petrol variant that has an output of 112 bhp.

Chevy Cruze carries distinct features such as arching roof-line, two tier grilles, twin-cockpit design (as in a sports car), large glove-box, spacious center console, and large headlamp, which gives the car a bold look. The car will also be equipped with climate controlled AC, 2 airbags, EBD, and ABS.

The dates have not yet been finalised for the launch by the parent company, GM, owing to poor economic conditions worldwide. But the speculation is that the car will be launched by the end of this year.

The Chevrolet Cruze is expected to be priced between Rs 11 to Rs 13 lakh, to compete with other D segment cars such as the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla.

If the price is so less, then where will the Optra Magnum go? It is the car that competes with Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla. The Cruze is supposed to give heat to Sonata, Jetta, etc.

I guess, they will reduce Magnum's price. There is less chance for the Chevy to sell well at price of above 15 lacs.

We could slightly see a price drop of optra but I don't think this would happen as the Cruze is expected to priced around 15+lacs, So theres no chance of confliction between both models.
