Angry Official Mileage figues for Indian cars!

    Post  Vibhor 23rd April 2009, 6:11 pm

    Hey Guys!
Society of Indian Auto Manufacturers has released official mileage figures of all cars sold in India. These figures are achieved under standard test conditions and look way too optimistic. Certainly you won’t get as much fuel efficiency from your car as the figures below but if you can get close then you should be happy. 👍

    • Tata Nano - 23.6kmpl
    • Fiat 500 - 22kmpl
    • Hyundai Verna Diesel -21.9kmpl
    • Tata Ace Magic Diesel - 21.5kmpl
    • Skoda Octavia Diesel - 21.39kmpl
    • Maruti A-Star -19.6kmpl
    • Maruti Alto- 18.1kmpl
    • Maruti 800 - 16.1kmpl
    • Maruti Omni - 16.9kmpl
    • Maruti Swift Dzire Petrol - 15.9kmpl
    • BMW 3 Series Diesel - 15.9kmpl
    • Honda Civic - 15.5kmpl
    • Hyundai Tucson Diesel - 14kmpl
    • BMW X3 - 14kmpl
    • Mercedes C220 CDI - 13.9kmpl
    • Hyundai Sonata - 13.54kmpl
    • Skoda Superb - 13.54kmpl
    • Toyota Camry - 13.54kmpl
    • Chevrolet Tavera Petrol - 13.3kmpl
    • Honda CRV - 13.2kmpl
    • Mercedes S350 Petrol - 9.9kmpl

Here is the list of all Maruti Suzuki Cars
Official Mileage figues for Indian cars! Untitl10

This is how test is done:
The approved agencies conduct tests on all the cars under "standard test conditions". Amongst many parameters, the "standard test conditions" include: 2 persons in the car, AC switched-off; Standard (non-adulterated) fuel; gear changes in a predetermined pattern and at predetermined acceleration levels; standard air pressure in the tyres, wind speed etc. As the "standard test conditions" during tests at the certification agency are identical for all vehicles, irrespective of manufacturer, the customer will able to make correct comparisons of fuel efficiency, across car models.

    Are they of any importance.
I think the official efficiency should be real time mileages and not the ones done under standard condition because they are achieved almost never.

i second you on this abhi that official efficiency should be measured with real time mileage and not under standard conditions cause that figures are never achieved as you said, i guess hyundai conducted real time mileage challenge followed by mahindra for its logan, correct me if i am wrong as i have seen that on TV few months back and both of them were for diesel engines.

:agree: Vijay and Abhi, Its not possible to follow pre-determined patterns in unpredictable city traffic.

There is no Tavera petrol available in the market. Must be a silly mistake..!

i agree there's no point in these official efficiency figures. why cant they just tell the people how much of fuel the car will drink. as it is everyone knows about these false figures.

My Honda City ZX VTEC gives me 12.5 in the city and around 17.5 on the highway.

The City Figures are 50% Ac and 50%without.
Highway figures are the same as well

My Swift petrol gives me an average of 14.5 when driven without the AC on and about 13.3 when driven with AC on on 60% highway roads and 40% congested city traffic.
