This might sound strange. I heard of people swapping engines in their car. Starting from Amby to Zen, i've heard of it. My doubt is, can these engines can be bought easily by normal person? Like say 1.3mjd. If so please tell the process.

Here in Delhi, there is a place called Mayapuri, You can eaisly purchase engines from that place. GO to a place where they scrap cars, You can find second hand engines there.
Cars that have a total loss accident, usually the engines are removed.

Heard of similar places here too. But how can we ensure that the engine is good?
Can't we directly approach manufacturer for this?

No not now. May be in future. Getting engine for some good old cars, whose engine or car is not in production now.

You can get a brand new engine built for yourself by an authorized workshop.Just make sure the bottom end is used from the original engine.
If you're looking for a donor engine for a car that's out of production I'd recommend you buy a toyota 1N,2N or 2C series engine with gearbox. They can be sourced easily and run 200k kms without issues.

How is it possible to get a brand-new engine built by an authorised workshop? I've not heard of it before. Give more details on the price range, they usually collect, approximately and will it be reliable?
Where to source Toyota 1N, 2N or 2C engine? How much will it cost? Can we expect the authorised dealer of the car to install it?

You give them the old engine and tell them too rebuild it.This is assuming the car company still exists.

So we can get piston and other parts, as long as the engine is still in production?

How will be the refinement, reliability and overall performance of the rehauled/re-builded engine?

Those diesel engines are generally sourced from the mayapuri jeep market,They're transplanted into willy's jeeps which then become daily cars.
Refinement and overall preformance will be on par with whatever the engine was like when new.Remember,it's an authorised station and they generally work to factory tolerances.

Uhh..no..they can be fitted to pretty much anything under the sun.Santros,palios,contessas..pretty much anything. The only thing you need to do is decide mounting points and stronger springs to cope with the added weight of the engine.Apart from that, you decide if you want an automatic or manual transmission.Estimated fuel economy fluctuates from 14kpl,NA diesel automatic to 20 kpl,Turbo manual.

How much those Toyota engines cost? approximate value is enough.
And also here we have strict rules for endorsing a engine swap. It is not legal to put a diesel engine in a petrol car. Do you have any such rules?
