Check Engine light ON - Esteem

I need some quick help with the problem i am facing with my car (ESTEEM VX - 2002), Starting tuesday i see the check engine light glowing and it has a pattern when it blinks. The pattern goes like this 1 - 6, not sure if this is some kind of code which i can decode or should this only be taken to MASS for rectification?
Please help[plz]... I tried to google, but no results for esteem and other sites suggest a scan of some kind which can decode the information for me and tell me what's wrong with my car.
Any suggestions...

My uncle's Zen had this problem once. The reason that time was some belt was not working properly. But i think the warning lamp will glow for a wide range of problems. Take it to Maruti Service station ASAP. They can be able to find it easily.
