Yamaha R15 has one the Indian Motorcycle of the Year Award 2009. The bike won the award on the eve of 16th February in a grand awards distribution ceremony held at Hyatt in Mumbai.
The Indian Motorcycle of the Year award was constituted last year by all the automobile publications (magazines) to honour the best motorcycle in the country. The previous year's winner, the Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTS-FI was also one of the contenders for the award. Apart from the R15 and the Pulsar 220, bikes like Yamaha FZ 16, Honda Stunner, and Bajaj Discover 135 contended for the coveted title. The R15 emerged a strong winner outshining its competition by a huge margin.
Apart from the IMOTY, a new award has been constituted this year. IPBOTY or the Indian Performance Bike of the Year award is an effort y all the automotive publications in India to honour the most exciting and performance oriented bike in the country. The R15, with is prowess around the racetrack walked with this award as well, pipping the Hero Honda Karizma, the TVS RTR EFI, and the Pulsar 220 which were also contending for the crown. The evaluation session for IPBOTY this year was held on the MMSC racetrack in Chennai where renowned bike journos from all the publications came together and took all the contending bikes for a rigorous test session around the racetrack for deciding the winner.
