Jaguar and Landrover launched!

Tata plans to open a company owned showroom by April in Mumbai and soon afterwards, will begin selling both Jaguar and Land Rover cars from there. The cars will be imported and the flagship car would be the XJ.
The XJ comes with a 4.2 litre V8 as well as a 2.7 litre V6 diesel. The XJ is likely to be priced competitively compared to the S-Class. It is unlikely, however, that Jaguar will be able to compete with BMW as the company assembles their cars locally. The prize import for Jaguar as far as lead-footers are concerned, will be the XF. The 385 bhp, V8 powered car has a sporty profile and is expected to appeal to younger buyers. 140 Jaguar XFs and XJs are already doing duty as limos for the Taj Mahal Hotel.
As far as Land Rover is concerned, the Range Rover seems likely to be imported. The Freelander, that comes with a 2.2 litre diesel engine could also be introduced. It is priced similarly to the popular CR-V and could provide Honda with some much needed competition. :bball:

But very sad news is TATA motors has hit worse by recession & now Jaguar & Landrover is really a doubt??

@zinam, Tata is now in a bad time, I think. Nano project gets delayed due to problems in Singur. Even now Tata couldn't launch it. Vista didnot get the response, which it should actually get. Grande failed to perform well, so as Safari. Let's hope if they could bring JLR and succeed in that.

The Jaguars will give some competition to the Mercs, Audis and BMW's that dominate the sales charts here. The LR Discovery is being geared up to meet our defence needs. And the Range Rover will sell in tiny numbers being priced at Rs 80-90 L which is nearly one and a half to two times that of the luxury SUV's on sale here.

Yes it is exactly true as Anjan said.
Jaguar & Land Rovers are too costly & Ratan has given a interview long back stating "Jaguar & LandRovers are too mature for INDIAN market & it will come with a price tag 1Crore+ ".
So this launch will make no difference in TATA's world!

yes zinam, i remember ratan tata saying that these wheels are too mature for indian market some time back, with nano project delayed,vista-grande-safari not doing that gr8 for the company in this fiancial crisis period, this J & LR project seems doubtful too.. As its price tag is not going to see huge numbers sold in market.

Jaguar & Land Rover in India by Mid 2009!


Tata Motors is ready to roll out Land Rover and
Jaguar in India by mid-2009. "We are set to launch our cars in India and the
plans would be announced next month. The cars are likely to be launched by the
middle of this year," MDs of Jaguar and Land Rover told TOI at the ongoing
Shanghai Motor Show.

The company shall start retailing the car from
its Mumbai dealerships at first and then expand to other cities in India. "We
are looking at dealerships in the top five major cities in the first phase,
though expansion beyond Mumbai would happen in a phased manner," said Phil
Popham, MD of Land Rover. Land Rovers intends to introduce all its models in
India that will be imported as Completely Built Units. Regarding the high import
duty structure in India he commented, “It is like the fact of life and we have
to deal with it.”

Yeah, I was about to say the same thing, Land Rover is already available in India, I think, through a dealer called Navneet Motors, either in Delhi or Mumbai.

Struggling automakers Jaguar and LandRover plans to bring their models into India at the earliest. “We’re still finalising plans, but the likelihood is within a few months. I can’t be more precise simply because the exact timing will be dependent on how the planning goes,” a JLR spokesperson said. The spokesperson added Tata Motors would be the distributor of these brands in India. Since both the brands plans to import the models as a CBU (Completely Built Unit) which means it will attract a heavy import duty of 110% and it will double the cost. When BMW,Mercedes and Audi are being assembled in India, JLR models would the cost advantage to the locally assembled models. “Because our volume will initially be fairly low, it will be a case of seeing how things develop. Who knows what could happen in the future if there is a strong demand? For the foreseeable future, though, we will be concentrating on establishing the brands properly in India,” said the JLR spokesperson.

I really like some of the jags a lot.

I like jaguar.It has more comfort than E-class.

Ya, me too would prefer Jaguar over Merc E.
By the way, if landrover is already sold in India then will its prices would be reduced after coming officialy??

Looks like Tata is not only gonna open a single showroom of JLR, but many more. I heard they might be having an employee shortage too. So now JLR's almost here, let's wait and watch what happens. :jump:

yeah tata is out for getting dealership for much talked brands JLR from TATA.

I also read that only after the entry of J-LR, Tata has planned to launch its products like Indigo vista, etc.. So Tata is concentrating hard to bring JLR to India.

Yes, they are launching the XF, XK, XFR and XKR in India. Surprisingly no XJ!

well i think because XJ is quite near to RIP so they might as well launch the all new XJ!
