Honda CR-V powered by a diesel engine - Soon in India

Good news for those who were missing the strengths of a diesel engine in a Honda CR-V. According to some reports, Honda is looking forward to launch a Honda CR-V powered with a diesel engine this year. It is rumored that the CR-V diesel will be priced around 25 lakh rupees in India.

Some of you will be surprised to know according to Honda sales literature in UK the CR-V stands for ‘Compact Recreational Vehicle’ and Japanese Honda fact books say it stands for ‘Comfortable Runabout Vehicle.’

The CR-V loosely originated from Honda Civic when the Japanese car maker felt the need of adding a Sports Utility Vehicle to their line of products.

In India, the CR-V is currently produced with both an all wheel drive and a front wheel drive with two petrol engines.

This is a very old news as ACI caught the diesel CR-V testing on Indian roads a long time back. They also said that it would be pretty refined and powerful and might come in the Accord first and the CR-V after that.

Yeah it is a old news, but the latest news as per the article is 'when'. It says that the CR-V diesel will come to us soon by this year. But the pricing is not attractive, at 25lacs, you can buy a petrol and spend the excess cost for buying petrol. Also expect diesel to have less features than petrol.

Honda has been testing CR-V Diesel since last year but theres no exact news of its launch yet!
Hope it makes this time here, but as the CR-V's price has been already hiked diesel will be more costlier.

As mentioned the car will cost around 25lacs but thats on high side.
I would go for captiva diesel which looks more bigger and mature than CR-V by saving total Rs.5lac from hard earned money but the point again comes same, Honda Enthusiasts will prefer CR-V only.

I think Honda's diesel engine will be worth the money. The test car was caught a long time back, and they still haven't launched it, meaning they must be working hard on fine tuning the engine. As is the case with all Honda petrols, I think the diesel will be something to watch out for. All that coupled with the CR-V's car like manners might make it an immediate hot favorite. Plus the auto journalists have always been partial towards Honda, giving it a good review. This will all the more, contribute in the CR-V diesel's success.

They must be working hard to make the diesel engine compliant with our poor quality adulterated fuel. I read somewhere, our fuel quality has made Honda hesitant to bring diesel.

It may come with the same 2.2 CTDi which was also in an American Accord spied by ACI a month ago.

Well, IMHO Honda never came out with an efficient diesel engine at all which is why the diesels stayed in places like the US and never came to India where economy is the first deciding factor. Honda's petrol engines are brilliant bearing in mind that they aren't even supercharged or turbocharged and this is what gave them that edge, even if the engines were not that efficient.
On a CR-V however - that's a different ball game all together. You can't just target the elite class of people that want a fancy looking vehicle with piss poor economy in the ranges of 4-7kmpl (yes, that's what the general average is), a diesel is a good bet, after the suzuki grand vitara comes out with diesel engine, CR-V will go for a toss!

Is honda really serious for getting diesel engines for their cars in indian market, its been long time they have tested this engine here on CR-V but no confirmation regarding when are they going to launch diesel engines for their range of cars, still its wait and watch, and as CC said if by said source of 25L price range,diesel cr-v wont be selling that good numbers as it does in petrol.

IMO, even if the price is high, the CR-V diesel will sell well because its a Honda and a Honda with a diesel engine will immediately find favour, irrespective of the price.
