GM Launches Confidence Building Campaign Empty GM Launches Confidence Building Campaign

    Post  Vibhor 4th June 2009, 9:36 am

With the North American operations of car major General Motors (GM) filing for bankruptcy, its Indian subsidiary has been busy sending out messages that all is well. The company has posted some of its key representatives across 35 cities to handle fear or apprehension that the customers may have on the future of GM’s operations here in India. To address concerns related to spare parts, investments, new launches and service networks in the country, the company is launching a new marketing campaign called “there for you, there for India”. You can checkout more here.
“We are not cutting back on investments, or stopping production of any model,” said Ankush Arora, GM India V-P, marketing and sales. In fact the US auto maker is going ahead with its new launches in the country. In a few days, it will launch the LPG variant of the Spark followed by the Chevrolet Cruze in September and the mini car early next year.
Till date, GM India has invested over Rs 5,000 crore across its facilities in Halol, Talegaon and Gurgaon. With the slowdown in vehicle sales, GM India was on a single shift operation in Talegaon. It expects to go back to the double shift as and when demand picks up. The company has started helping dealers stock up spare parts and has dedicated a complete stockyard of spare parts at its Talegaon unit. Spare parts are currently being imported from Thailand, Korea, Japan and Europe. GM’s India operations are independent of North America.

With this campaign, they should launch the new cars in the expected time(without delaying) to gain more confidence.

That's great :jump: . I didn't check it before, as it was too small to read. But they should launch it in the promised period.

nice move from GM. india is a ray of hope for them at the time of their crumbling economy. and i can see they want to make full use of the situation. I am waiting for the cruze. seems very interesting to me.

This is the right time for GM to gain confidence. After Spark LPG, they should bring 800cc engine quick, then Cruze and MINI car as per the schedule.

Don't know how much confidence GM is gaining by starting this campaign but one thing is for sure, GM is trying hard to convince the Indian public that GM India will remain unaffected, So that people don't stop buying its cars like in US.

    I agree.
This is just because of fear that they don't loose Indian customers.

Thats a good sign. And yes, there is hardly any impact on sales of Chevrolet (India). One of my relative is going for Optra Magnum after driving my car.

Hey thats great move by GM. All it needs to do now is ramp up its production capacity and upgrade its existing models. Chevy is gradually gaining popularity and this could be like a blessing in disguise for GM US also at a later stage.

yeah and i know few people who were tempted to buy GM for two reasons, ultra silent engines and 3yrs package which they felt is a boon for them, atleast peace of mind with those years, now new variants launching in market people would start believing in them and their words in here, hope to see them contiune doing so,bring more good models for indian market along with its production capacity.

GM has a large production capacity.
The Halol plant has a capacity of 80,000 while the Talegaon plant has a capacity of 1.4 lakh units.
    Its good enough.
