they should change the name of grand vitara to only vitara, as there's nothing grand left in that vehicle. IMO

All things that are worth to be found on all vehicles has found its way on this special edition. IMO, these might attract to a buyer of Alto/wagon R, not to the one who is going to buy Vitara.

Nice try by MSIL to push up Vitara's sales.
Good list of features have been added but most of them are for show-off and useless.
GrandVitara needs something more so that other cars in its segment like Captiva etc don't snatch up its sales.

That's quite true. They don't have the maturity to deal with these cars. I doubt how they are going to market the Kizashi concept.

The Price difference should not be much, As most of the accessories are not of much cost except leather seats.

IMO this one should cost nothing. These parts should be given in the original car itself. Any hike in price is unwelcome.

    Post  dcargod 3rd June 2009, 4:01 pm

The Grand Vitara lost out because of the following reasons:-
    1. Poor engine producing only 120 bhp is just not right for the class. All others have beastly powerful 2.4lt petrol or 2.0lt diesel engines. The Vitara's 2.0lt petrol does not even bring it close to the race.
    2. Poor interior packaging for the price. Most bits are shared with the Swift/SX4 and look downmarket for the price. Also the dull black interiors with very poor amount of creature features has also led to its decline. At this price point, owners don't mind spending a bit more and opting for better SUVs like the CR-V, Captiva, Outlander, etc.

The limited edition is not exactly the most eye-catching around with useless and cheap additions, except for the leather seats. This cae still won't sell and Maruti needs to do something fast like upgrade the engine and the interiors to keep this well-engineered product and capable off-roader on the go.

    I wouldn't say that dcargod.
I have driven the Vitara and it is quite decent to drive.

But yes, the dull black interiors along with poor automatic transmission and steering etc from the Swift/SX4 makes it not something to boast about.

Have you also driven a CR-V Abhinav? Then you would understand the difference.

I have driven the CR-V but then its almost 3 lakh cheaper.
Comparing it with endeavour, its better drivable ( It was the Old 2.5 Endeavour when i drove it )

yes thats what even i knew that its a CBU. and IMO thats the main reason of its failure. the high price is not justified. if this car can be priced somewhere around 10-11lacs by manufacturing it in india, it might have some future. i used to like the earlier Grand Vitara. it was huge and a proper SUV/MUV and also was a 7 seater.it somewhat justified its price tag. but the present vitara is just a crossover kind of vehicle which is similar in dimensions to a hatchback.and what more you dont even get leather seats in a car costing 15lacs.

If it was manufactured here and sold for 10-11 lacs, then it could have performed better. Those who were buying Safari, Endeavor would have opted for it. A much better and cheaper option.
