Redesigned VW Polo may roll out from chakan in 2010!

A renewed Volkswagen Polo hatchback and a sedan based on the Polo will roll out of VW’s Chakan Plant in Pune in 2010. VW’s Chakan plant will start functioning in April, producing sister compan Skoda’s Fabia, a year before original intentions. The underlying structures of the Skoda Fabia will be used to make the Polo and Polo sedan.
The refreshed VW Polo will be shown to the world at Geneva this year. This car will be manufactured in places like India and Brazil where there is more demand for small cars. Apart from selling it locally, VW also has export plans in mind.
The sedan variant will come later next year. Both the cars will be displayed at the Delhi AutoExpo next year. The refreshed cars will borrow styling cues from the Scirocco concept. It will also be a better car in terms of design, performance and interiors.
Expected under the hood is a 1.2 petrol, 1.6 petrol and 1.6 diesel engine.

Hey looks great & it will not be competitor to skoda only, but also to i20 Crde & Jazz.
But this car is too pricey when compared to others in this segment

It looks great and as zinam already said it would compete with Fabia, i20 CRDI.
The interiors are very cool.

Price will be on par with Fabia diesel, most probably.

the good news is that now almost all the companies are planning to get their production house in india and sell globally, so lots of hot and premium hatchbacks for indian market, we might see change in this category.

Volkswagen Polo By End 09!

Indian auto buyers will be able to buy affordable German cars by the end of 2009. Volkswagen is ready to launch Polo by end of this year. VW unveiled its new manufacturing unit in Chakan near Pune in March 2009. Post-pact with the Maharashtra government, the auto major would acquire 230 hectares of land in Chakan at Pune. The new plant would boast of an initial capacity of 110,000 units by 2009. The company is expected to invest around Rs 2,450 crore for the plant.

The new variant of Polo from VW will be specially designed for Indian customers and will compete with Maruti’s Swift, Hyundai’s Getz and Tata Motor’s Indica. The car is expected to be priced around Rs. 4 lakh and above. Volkswagen will also roll out its Passat model , which will don a price tag of Rs 30 lakh which will be rolled out from Skoda Auto manufacturing utility. Volkswagen will use group company SkodaAuto’s Shendra plant, near Aurangabad, to assemble the Audi A4 and A6 and VW’s Passat and Jetta.

VW Targets Rs.4lac pricing for polo!

Volkswagen India is quite keen on making the Polo a huge success when they launch the hatchback next year from their new Pune facility. After the not so successful launch of the Skoda Fabia, Volkswagen is worried about meeting its India Polo target of 25,000 units a year. Thus to ensure success of the Polo, Volkswagen has put a target price of Rs. 4 lakh for the base variant of the Polo which will be equipped with the naturally aspirated 1.2-litre petrol engine.
Volkswagen will also launch a sedan version of the Polo. The Polo sedan which will be named after a wind will compete with the Honda City and is expected with Volkswagen and Audi’s state-of-the-art petrol and diesel engines. Volkswagen plan to sell 25,000 units of the saloon as well, which won’t be easy considering Honda City is the most famous saloon in the country.

There is difficult task ahead for VW, especially the sting of high maintenance of German cars. But then, the Polo has a lot of fan following and many people are eagerly waiting for it. The 4 lakh price tag also seems good enough. The saloon will also do quite well because of its solid built, efficiency, comfort and engines(read: TSi fame). It will be fun to watch a Germany verses Japan in both hatchback and saloon categories.

4 lacs is quite impossible price. But one thing for sure, Polo will be priced very competitively, making its cousin Fabia seem exhorbitantly priced.

just waiting for this car to get released over here.. hope the prices are around what you said bro.. but i still have a feeling, it's gonna be quite high.. its a real good car, beautiful interior and german!! little tough to believe that price tag..

If Fabia base variant costs 5.5lacs(just checked), then there is a chance for polo to be price close to 5 lacs for base variant, with an ex-showroom of around 4.5 lacs. Now i think the VW has a chance with maximum localisation.
