What car to buy ?? in small car Empty What car to buy ?? in small car

    Post  jj 4th August 2009, 9:50 pm

I am struggling to arrive at a good car to buy.
    My expectations:
    a) A small car(only petrol) with good looks and very good mileage.( for a family of 3 members)
    b) Comfort and safety.
    c) Daily around 20 km up and down together
I am looking at Wagon R? however Alto looks very small. I am 5' 7" height.
can we compare Wagon R and TATA v2 indica vista /xeta.?? or anyother car??
    Pl.suggest.

WagonR is pretty comfortable; however have you test driven any other car in the same segment? And can you please mentioned your budget as well?

how about getz which is now available within his range and fits 5 adults with enough of luggage space too and is a good car.
else wagonR or estilo serves perfectly in that range.

When there are so many new VFM models out in the market I wouldn't suggest the aged WagonR. The Budget of Rs.4lacs is fine for a small family hatchback.

JJ, Check out the all new Maruti Ritz and the Swift as well. But However at this budget you will get their base version and for the swift you may have to stretch it a bit. So take the swift out of your list.

Alternatively, You can get a nice feature loaded Hyundai i10 (1.1 Era version)which offers quite nice features such as front power windows etc etc and the mileage it returns is 12 - 16Kpl.

If space is a big concern for you then also have a look at the Chevrolet U-Va 1.2, As they, Its "Incredibly Spacious" car with much bigger feel than i10.

As you've mentioned that the car will be mostly used for family & official purposes which is 600-1000 Kms per month so I guess the car will be also be used for highways too.
Keeping this in mind I suggest you the U-Va because of already above mentioned points(But mind you that refreshed U-Va is due this or next year).

Test Drive both the cars, The i10 & U-VA, Go for the one in which you feel most comfy and whichever perfectly suits your requirements, Afterall you know your requirements better than me!
    All The Best.

Hi JJ, looking at the requirements you have put down, for me you appear to be a practical buyer. Here is the availability list in petrol (excluding FIAT Palio):

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R (Options: LX, LXi, VXi )
Maruti Suzuki Zen Estilo (Options: Lx, LXi, VXi, VXi ABS)
Maruti Suzuki A-Star (Options: Lxi, VXi)
    Hyundai Getz Prime 1.1 GLE
    Hyundai i10 (Options: Era, D-Lite)
Hyundai Santro Xing (Options: Std, GL, GLS)
Chevrolet Spark (Options: Muzic 1.0 LS, 1.0 PS, 1.0 LT, 1.0 LS, 1.0 std )
Tata Indica Vista (Options: Terra 1.2 Safire, Aura 1.2 Safire , Aqua 1.2 Safire )
Tata Indica V2 Xeta BS III (Options: 1.2 GLS , 1.2 GLE, 1.2 GL)

You have one Sedan in this price range: Tata Indigo CS (Options: GLS, GLE )

I agree to Vibhor that Wagon R is aged. However, it is a trusted and proven car, plus less maintenance cost and MSIL service makes it attractive. On the other hand Hyndai i10 is an excellent car too. It is one of the best cars in the class. I have not tried Spark yet. So I can not comment on that one. There are threads in TAI forum, discussing on Chevrole Spark and Chevrole's new offerings. You could check out that. Coming to TATA, Vista is a right candidate I think. If you are interested in Sedan, Indigo CS is a good pick. One of my friend in Cochin is using it and the feedback, so far is really positive. You will surely be impressed by the trunk, when you have to take your family for long a trip.

I think you should pick from - Wagon R, i10, Vista, Spark -. Test drive all of them, try to feel it, then decide Smile Best of luck!

PS: Please let us know your pick.

Thanks Vijay. In fact I was wondering on he wide options available for us now. I still remember those days where we only had Amby, Pdmini and M800 as an option! I think the fight in A & A+ segment will be more tough in coming days considering Proton and Toyota are also planning for small cars. Good for us, but confusion increases for a potential buyer lol!

I suggest you to choose between Indica Vista, Chevy U-Va and Hyundai i10.
I wouln't make much sense for going with dated cars such as Xeta and Getz when their new models are out.

    Hi JJ,
I will just give a single liner for all the cars. All the given are my opinion after driving all the cars. Enjoy Drive
Maruti Suzuki Wagon R (Options: LX, LXi, VXi ) - Bit Outdated / VFM
Maruti Suzuki Zen Estilo (Options: Lx, LXi, VXi, VXi ABS) - Not worth the Deal.
Maruti Suzuki A-Star (Options: Lxi, VXi) - Very less Rear Space & No Boot :)
Hyundai Getz Prime 1.1 GLE - Will be replaced soon. SOT - Hyundai
    Hyundai i10 (Options: Era, D-Lite) - VFM / Good Deal - Magna 1.2 (Kappa) - 4.12Lakhs OTR Chennai
Hyundai Santro Xing (Options: Std, GL, GLS) - Bit Outdated / VFM
    Chevrolet Spark (Options: Muzic 1.0 LS, 1.0 PS, 1.0 LT, 1.0 LS, 1.0 std ) - Cute & Compact / VFM
Tata Indica Vista (Options: Terra 1.2 Safire, Aura 1.2 Safire , Aqua 1.2 Safire ) - TATA is still not popular for Petrol Vehicles.
Tata Indica V2 Xeta BS III (Options: 1.2 GLS , 1.2 GLE, 1.2 GL) - TATA is still not popular for Petrol Vehicles.

For me Wagon R & Getz is little Outdated.
Why not try i10 1.2 Magna, which comes to 4.12 OTR Chennai. Party My friend just made a deal @ KUN Hyundai Chennai.
Gives a mileage of 13/16 in City/Highway with AC.

    Whats your Pick ? cheers
