Hot on the heels of Audi's A5 Sportback is a crossover from Honda spotted undergoing durability tests in the US.
Based on the American Accord - the same one that's sold in Thailand
- the sporty five-door hatchback could make it to production by the
year-end, although it will test American waters first before it would
be considered for other markets.
Although the platform and 3.5-litre V6 engine is from the Accord,
sources suggest that the crossover will bear styling cues of the
hydrogen-powered FCX Clarity, itself being a rakish-looking family car.
This is not the first time the Japanese brand has been envious of
the Europeans. Earlier this year in Detroit, Honda unveiled a prototype
of the ZDX with Acura badge to rival BMW's coupe'-cum-SUV X6.
The market-ready ZDX is due roughly at the same time as the Accord
crossover, giving Honda new solutions to Germany's growing niche
models. Should the Hondas hit the Japanese market, Thai grey importers
have a chance of selling them here, as the Thai Honda office has yet to
revive CBU imports.
