Friends can you please help me in selecting a good Digital camera. My budget is from rs. 15000 - rs. 20000. It'll be used on holiday trips. Brand is not an issue, but i've heard Nikon is the best. Please provide me help, as I have no knowledge on Cameras.

Try and have a look at the Sony models. They come with a Carl-Zeiss lens and have a host of features in the Rs 15-20 K range.

    Thanks for the replies. :)
@zinam, where did you check the price of S610? The link you gave tells the price is Rs. 19950.
@anjan, can you please specify the model name which you feel good?

Can I get a SLR camera at this price?
What are its benefits? I checked in wikipedia that it enables users to see what exactly we capture(non- SLR cameras give different image before taking in view finder and different image after taking). What is its purpose actually? Do I need one?

    CC Buddy!!

To make it clear it depends on the Interests u have in photography.... :)

An avid photographer will surely go for an SLR & taking pics from SLR is not quite easy!! :(

My Friend is an Avid Photographers & i have used SLR a lot. Its really difficult to get a best shot coz.. U need to know a lot abt lighting & exposure & there are few more tech terms he taught me before taking a pics... :x

If u want good pics... Any Digi Cam above 8MP will do that. If u need an Portfolio of u & ur VDI to be created then obviously u have to go for SLR which is more professional & Quite Complex. 👽

I hope ur requirement is for an Holiday Trip & SLR never suits an Holiday trip. Experts carry SLR to create an Normal Place into an Holiday Spot. & I hope SLR will not suit u !

Hope you will be Clear !!

    please go to:
    http://www.sony.co.in/microsite/cybershot/index.html?hpid=Cyber-shot:home:MCF
They have a whole range ranging from T, W,S and H series models. I am not sure about Sony SLR cameras but these have become cheaper and cost a bit upward of Rs 20,000. In 2005 these used to cost Rs 50,000 upwards.
A SLR camera is useful for very closely taken images (upto 4 cms from the object too). Also it can be fitted with telephoto lenses and so on for distant photography. The images are more true to the ones on the image screen.

Hi every one we bought a new camera :bounce: . It is a Canon PowerShot SX10IS. Actually I thought of going for a Nikon. Canon was last in my choice. One of my uncle suggested(Changed our mind) to go for it at the last time of buying.
Here is the image of the camera, taken with my mobile(Nokia 5310)
