Revamped Skoda Octavia in India!

Skoda is planning to launch a revamped Octavia to reinforce its presence in the D segment in India. It is contemplating its options to launch an upgraded version of Skoda Octavia in next few years for the Indian customers. The new upgraded model will be India-specific and will be built on a new platform at its Chakan facility near Pune. There are no details available about the pricing or technical details of the new upgraded model being considered by the company.

Currently, the Indian model of Skoda Octavia is a five door lift back model with estate body styles. It shares its platform and auto components with other models from the Volkswagen group like VW Jetta and VW Golf. Skoda sold nearly 8000 Octavia and Laura models in India last year. It falls second to Honda Civic in this segment.

Skoda launched new upgraded Laura in India last month. The car is in fact the latest generation Octavia which seems to be rebadged as Laura for the Indian market. The revamped model comes with new exteriors as well as interiors. The car is more value for money than before and intends to strengthen Skoda’s presence in its segment

It is much needed face lift now. As Octavia now sells in a very less number, compared to few years back. They need to give a major face-lift to keep it going.

VW have created a mess by launching Octavia, Laura, Jetta & Passat which are now going to cannibalise sales of one another. It makes sense to kill the octavia rather than continue selling it with a cosmetic surgery, which in all probability will be limited, since the Laura is the new octavia in the 1st place. Still, if they continue to plug the Octavia along, they should reduce the price substantially to make any head way in selling it. What 'VW' now needs to do is clearly de-markate 'Skoda' brand from 'VW' brand here price wise, else very soon 'Skoda' will not be that popular a brand anymore as compared to 'VW' , because 'VW' is a much better regarded & well known brand in India.

Before anyone starts questioning what i'm saying, keep in mind that the
four models mentioned share lots of parts with each other.

i dont that is going to be the case. as all the cars you mentioned have got different price brackets. from skoda octavia starting around 11 lacs to passat going above 23 lacs. i dont think they are in the same competition.

The Octavia is getting very old and is indeed in dire need of a major upgrade. It is a very good car and can still last several generations. I personally love the Octavia and think that it only needs a CRDi engine, upgraded interiors and more space to get it going again. Everything else is upto the mark, save the rear looks, which need to be styled up a bit to bring back that appeal.
I am happy that VW is taking some action, but it needs to be quicker to bring the car back to life.

If Skoda adds a 1.8L TSI to the Octy, it will be great.

Yes. Even a slightly detuned version will do. This is a motor where performance and economy go hand in hand.

I read somewhere that Skoda might bring down the current Octavia's price under 10 lac :P with 1.4l diesel from Fabia

If thats the case, the Octavia will hardly move on the tarmac.

Yeah 1.4 is already not great on performance in Fabia, but i guess they might increase the power. But the thing is, i read it long back in ACI, in an issue which featured new cars for 2009(or 2008, i don't remember exactly).

Yes even I remember that issue. But the reality is that though FE would be great, the car wouldn't be a treat to drive as the current diesel version. I also read that a Fabia 1.9 TDi is on the cards. That would have been a hard performer. Hope that makes it here.

I have noticed that there are not many skoda's coming to the road now. The sales is ok. So they really need to think of something to attract customers back
