There should be a continuity in the economic policies by the new government in congruity with the ones enumerated by the previous government. Many decisions like differential duties for cars defined as small and others defined as large have made the difference and most manufacturers are gearing their manufacturing to orient themselves with the new definitions and pass on the reduced excise duties to buyers. We are getting many new diesel engined cars below the 1500cc limit and also petrol cars below the defined 1200cc norm. Now if a new party comes to power and abruptly changes the small car and large car definitions, it can create lots of ripples and discomfort both for buyers and manufacturers. Some decisions on the automobile policies like the extra duties for cars/ SUV's with larger than 1500 cc engines@ Rs 15000=00 and for larger than 2000cc engines @ Rs 20000=00 , by the previous government are quite retrograde and need to be rolled back immediately. These were announced as the gas guzzler taxes about six months or so back.
The new government will surely be in favour of a healthy automobile industry, that has become a mainstage player in our country's economy.
As for me I am only too happy as I will be able to pursue my agenda
"Sops for Vintage and Classic cars" that
has moved a respectable distance during the tenure of the previous
government.
