The Heritage Motoring Club of India in association with Standard Chartered Bank (Principal Sponsor), Titus & Co. (Associate Sponsor) and supported by the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Tourism of the Government of NCT of Delhi is pleased to announce “The Delhi Heritage Drive ‘Badhte Kadam’ – Rally for the Girl Child” on Sunday, March 22, 2009.
“The Delhi Heritage Drive ‘Badhte Kadam’ – Rally for the Girl Child” will be the first intra-city Vintage & Classic car & motorcycle drive, organized to celebrate Delhi as a Heritage City and also with a view to encourage the education of the girl child and the protection of girl children from discrimination. This Drive will celebrate the joy of having a girl child and convey optimism for their future.
Our Chief Guest the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Government of NCT of Delhi, Smt. Sheila Dikshit will flag off the Drive. Our Guests of Honour Shri. Arvinder Singh Lovely, Ms. Ritu Beri, Ms. Kiran Bedi and Hon’ble Members of the Legislative Assembly of the Government of NCT of Delhi will drive in our Vintage & Classic Cars along with 20 girl children (age group 8 – 12 years) from NGOs. The Ministry of Education has also made arrangements for school children to witness both the drive and the display of Vintage and Classic Cars at Red Fort and at select convenient points across the route.
Through “The Delhi Heritage Drive ‘Badhte Kadam’ – Rally for the Girl Child”, the HMCI has taken the initiative to sponsor the education of each of the 20 invited girl children for at least one Academic year. Therefore, the Participation fee is fixed @ Rs. 2,000/- per car/motorcycle and participation is limited to two persons per car (including Children) and one person per motorcycle. No additional person (including children) will be permitted at the lunch venue. Please send in your entry using the attached Entry Form along with the participation fee of Rs. 2,000/- by Tuesday, March 10, 2009. No entry will be accepted after March 10, 2009. The entire proceeds of the Entry Fee will be donated to the head of a selected NGO present at the Lunch Reception for use for the welfare of the girl child.
This event is open to all members and friends of the Heritage Motoring Club of India participating in a car / motorcycle manufactured upto 1969 only. Keeping in mind the cause associated with the drive we request you encourage lady members of your family to participate in the drive. Participation is limited to 50 cars and 15 motorcycles and entries will be accepted and confirmed only if the completed Entry form along with the payment of Rs. 2,000/- is received by Tuesday, March 10, 2009.
Due to the limited number of entries and warm whether conditions, we request that only well restored cars and motorcycles, capable of driving in warm conditions participate in the drive. The entry for cars will be shortlisted by HMCI’s Car Selection Committee headed by Mr. S. B. Jatti (Vice- President, HMCI). The entry for motorcycles will be shortlisted by HMCI’s Motorcycle Selection Committee headed by Mr. Gurmukh Singh (Governing Body Member, HMCI).
Drivers, service crew, helpers and maids will be given food packets and must remain outside the lunch venue and access will not be permitted to them at the lunch venue.
The Drive will be flagged off by Smt. Sheila Dikshit on Sunday March 22, 2009 from Red Fort at 10.30 a.m. for to India Gate where the Heritage Motoring Club of India has planned a special exhibition to showcase the unique heritage automobiles that have been maintained by members of the HMCI. After the exhibition, the participating cars and motorcycles will drive to Smt. Shiela Dikshit’s Residence at 3, Moti Lal Nehru Marg where a special lunch has been organized for all participants. The detailed programme for the drive is as under:
8:00 a.m. to 9: 00 a.m. Venue - Red Fort: Registration of Vintage & Classic cars and motorcycles for the Drive. Breakfast consisting of ‘Delicacies of Chandni Chowk’ will be served to the Chief Guest, Hon’ble Ministers & Members of the Legislative Assembly, Children, Participants, Sponsors and Organizers.
9:00 a.m. to 10: 00 a.m.Guests will be escorted to view the Vintage & Classic cars and motorcycles on display and meet with participating owners and girl children. Brief information and interesting details about cars and motorcycles participating in the Drive will be provided on Display Placards placed in front of each car and motorcycle.
10: 30 a.m.Flag off by the Chief Guest: The Chief Guest, Smt. Sheila Dikshit along with Guests of Honour (including Senior Representatives from Standard Chartered Bank) will Flag-off the Drive. Ministers & Members of the Legislative Assembly of Delhi, Dignitaries, Distinguished Guests, Celebrities, Sponsors and the Press (Life Style, Auto magazines, newspapers and electronic news channels) will drive in and with the participating cars and motorcycles to India Gate.
10: 30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Drive from Red Fort, through Netaji Subhash Chandra Marg, Delhi Gate, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Tilak Marg to India Gate.
11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.Venue - India Gate: Arrival of the cars and motorcycles at India Gate. The participating Vintage and Classic cars and motorcycles will be arranged for a special exhibition at India Gate to showcase the unique heritage automobiles that have been maintained by members of the HMCI. Designated parking slots will be secured and marked in advance for the participating cars and motorcycles. Display Placards providing interesting details about the cars and motorcycles will be provided. Refreshments will be served to the Guests, participants, co-passengers and the accompanying girl children.
11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. An emcee will provide information on each car, and motorcycle on display including interviews with the Guests of Honour and participants. A special tour for school children is proposed to enable them to appreciate and enjoy the display of cars and motorcycles from close quarters.
12:30 p.m. Flag-off of the cars and motorcycles for the second leg of the Drive from India Gate to the residence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Smt. Shiela Dikshit at 3, Moti Lal Nehru Marg.
12:30 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. Drive from India Gate through Rajpath, Vijay Chowk Dalhousie Road, South Avenue, Teen Murti Marg and Akbar Road to Moti Lal Nehru Marg.
12:45 p.m.Flag-in at the Chief Minister’s Residence. The cars and motorcycles will be parked for display outside the Chief Minister’s Residence.
12:45 p.m. to 1: 45 p.m.Lunch Reception at the Residence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister: The Reception will be attended by about 250 guests consisting of Hon’ble Ministers, MLA’s, Dignitaries, Participants, Girl Children, Sponsors & Organizers.
The Guests of Honour, Hon’ble Ministers and Members of the Legislative Assembly and participants will be presented Souvenirs containing detailed biographies and photographs of past and present Chief Ministers of Delhi and the present Ministers and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Delhi along with photographs and details of participating Vintage and Classic cars and motorcycles.
The participants and 20 girl children will be presented Certificates of Participation, Mementoes and Gift Hampers.
